Books with title Gilbert's Birthday Surprise

A picture book from the ever-popular Tales from Fern Hollow series of 17 titles, richly illustrated in traditional style, for ages 3-93. Now back in print from the author/illustrator's (John Patience) own imprint, Talewater Press, this new edition, published in 2019, contains the same story and illustrations as the original version. Due to a mix-up with parcel labels, Sigmund Swamp accidentally receives a real live crocodile for his birthday. The creature escapes and causes pandemonium around the village.The birds were singing and the early morning sunshine was glinting through the trees as Mr Periwinkle the mailman came driving along the lane in his mail van. Normally, Mr Periwinkle did his rounds on his bicycle but this morning he had an especially large birthday present to deliver to Sigmund Swamp. It was a long wooden crate, and rather strange snorting noises were coming out of it! Carefully, Sigmund began to prise the lid off the crate. As he did this the snorting noises from inside grew louder and louder, until at last the lid popped open and out crawled an enormous crocodile! The charming Fern Hollow stories have remained popular since they were first published in 1980.

17. A Tale of Wooffer's Woods - October meant winter was coming. It was a time of getting ready for cold nights, and a time for storing up food for the hard times in the winter when food was scarce. Every animal does this in their own way. The squirrels, including Mr. A.A. Corn, Mr. Hoy T. Toity and Sir Right (Dickey) Doodah, were storing acorns and nuts. The rabbits were getting as fat as possible to be ready for the cold nights and dry grasses. Old Agnes and her Thousands were lining the walls of the house with straw and grass to be ready for the cold times of winter.
